Cake Smash! ~ Child Photography ~ Northern Sydney

This was my first go at doing a cake smash and it was SO much fun!  The cake looked fantastic, the baby was cute and although he took a little time to work out what was going on in the end he got stuck into it all pretty well!  I just love the bright colours and he has the most adorable blue eyes.  After having a good go at the cake, he thought the balloons were a lot more interesting though and preferred playing with them.

It’s such a perfect day ~ Family photography ~ Brisbane

You wouldn’t have known it was the middle of winter in Brisbane!  The morning was clear and mild, the flowers were blooming and everyone was in a great mood for this gorgeous family photo shoot at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane.  I had headed up for the weekend as a bit of time out for myself and still managed to fit in four shoots!  This was a mini shoot to catch young Jack as he gets close to one year old.

He has the most glorious clear blue eyes and was such a happy little chap, he readily engaged with the camera and obviously adores (and is adored by!) his parents.  The flowers made a lovely, colourful backdrop to the photos, it was so lovely to see them all out in the middle of July.

Expect to see a few more of my shoots from Brisbane over the coming weeks.  I had a fabulous weekend catching up with friends and doing these shoots.

Afternoon in The Rocks ~ Engagement Photography ~ Sydney

What a fabulous afternoon in The Rocks, Sydney with Toby and Lesley taking photos to celebrate their recent engagement.  The weather forecast wasn’t promising, but Sydney turned on a gorgeous blue sky for a perfect late autumn afternoon.  I’m always amazed that no matter how busy it is down at The Rocks, and it gets really busy on the weekends, it is always possible to find a quiet corner away from the crowds – perfect to get rid of those initial nerves of being “couply” in front of a camera.

I’ve known Toby for a while and met his fiancée a few times over the years so it was lovely to spend some time with them and hear about their wedding plans and stories about how the met, first dates and, of course, the proposal.  After an initial slightly nervous start, they quickly relaxed and got into the swing of things.engagement photography sydney, The Rocks

After some quiet spaces in The Rocks, we made our way to the harbour and around Dawes Point before heading up to Observatory Hill.  We caught the final bits of sunlight and finished off with a perfect silhouette under a tree – I’ve always wanted to do this photo at this location and it turned out just as I hoped, well worth laying down in some dirt to get!  Congratulations again to you both and wishing you all the best for your wedding next year!

Under the Trees ~ Family Photography Sydney

I met up with this gorgeous family on a very overcast morning out at Bicentennial Park at Homebush.  I love the soft light from an overcast day which allowed us to get these beautiful family photos out in the open.  The two little boys were firecrackers!  The older one was off and running for most of the shoot – playing in the grass, chasing the ducks, climbing things, he had so much energy.  The younger boy isn’t too mobile yet, but he kept an eye on everything going on around, taking it all in and he had the cutest, crooked little smile.

The sun made an appearance for the second half of the shoot and we had so many locations to choose from.  The boys obviously adored being with their parents and I loved watching the interaction between them all. xx

Five little boys… – Sydney Family Photography

With five boys aged six and under, my hat goes off to these parents!  We met up out at Bicentennial Park at Homebush one sunny morning to see how we would go trying to get all of them looking at the camera at the same time.  They were all so lovely and friendly though that we managed to get some great family photos with very little effort.  Then it was on to get some images of all the boys together and then the crazy energy started. Putting five boys in a great big park with so much space and so many places to explore made for us all being constantly on the go, grabbing the photos whenever they paused for breath before they were off again.  It was a beautiful morning and the boys really were delightful!

So much energy, so much activity and constantly on the go.  But then when you have kids as cute as these ones they are hard to resist.  We finished up the session at the water play area and let they boys run around some more.  I put the zoom lens on the camera and kept well back from the splashing and it was a really fun way to end things.  Luckily a change of clothes had been packed for all the boys because they certainly needed it after this!

An Afternoon at the Beach – Family Photography – Sydney

This fabulous family decided that they wanted to have photos at the beach, so one late afternoon we made our way down to Long Reef to see what we could find there.  I had already checked that it would be low tide, so most of the sand and rock platforms would be exposed, giving us loads of opportunities for exploring and some interesting shots.  It was the end of a beautiful sunny day, a little bit windy and made for some fantastic photos!

The kids were fantastic, they were so enthusiastic and had a great time exploring the new beach.  The kids (and mum!) all had new outfits bought especially for the shoot so they were excited to get to wear them and looked great! We played in the sand, checked out rock pools, clambered over driftwood and in general just had a lot of fun!  As we neared the end of the shoot, the reflections in some of the rock pools were just magical, so of course we had to get one final family photograph…

Sunny morning in the mountains – Family Photographer – Sydney

It was a gorgeous misty morning up in the Blue Mountains of Sydney when I headed up to photograph this gorgeous family.  I hoped the mist would hang around for a while and give us some lovely soft light, but it cleared quickly into the most glorious day for the start of autumn.

The older two boys were a little unsure about the whole thing at first, but quickly got into it and we got some lovely photos of the boys and the family.  While the grass was soaked from morning mist, there were some beautiful big old trees in the park which were just perfect for setting up some shots of the family sitting together.

Towards the end, the boys got a little tired of “standing in the right spot and looking at the camera”, I grabbed some photos of mum and dad together.  I absolutely adore these shots, after three kids and nearly nine years of marriage, they are still so obviously in love.

Then it was the baby’s turn and he put on a wonderful show of grins and giggles, with a few serious faces thrown in for good measure. He was most obliging, and lay down, sat, munched on his toes AND looked at the camera – a perfect model, and a perfect way to finish off the shoot!

6 months old already! – child photography, northern Sydney

Well, this little chap is certainly growing up fast!  He was a touch over six months old for these photos and is a deliciously chubby little boy who looks older than he is, possibly due to the loads of gorgeous hair he already has.  For this shoot we started at a local park near where the family live.  It had been raining all week though, so the ground was soggy and options became limited, so we grabbed a few shots and moved on.6 months family photos sydney LachieWe went back to their home to get the main lot of photos done inside and wow what a perfect set up they had in the living area.  There were beautiful polished floor boards, against recently painted skirting boards and walls, with huge windows letting in loads of natural light from both sides.  Master Lachie is still perfecting the art of sitting up, not that you would know if from the photo below!  I love the series of images with Dad reading to him – he looks so thoughtful, as though he’s really taking it all in.  And when they pulled out the jack-in-the-box, he became so focused.  He’s such a cute little boy and with such a sunny disposition, it was an absolute pleasure to photograph him with his mum and dad and catch up on how he was going.Lachie_6 months reading

An afternoon in the park – Family Photography Sydney

This family was always going to introduce a little bit of chaos to things with 3 boys under 7 and a 6 month old girl in the mix.  The mum described it to me as herding cats when the three boys are all together and she wasn’t far wrong!  I had met them all previously as the little girl is born on the same day as my daughter, but never all of them at the same time.  Having said that, the boys are fantastic – friendly, energetic, cheeky – and all with gorgeous blond hair.

We had already had to postpone this shoot twice – once due to all the rain we have been having in Sydney lately, and once due to a couple of the kids being sick.  So third time was the charm and while it looked a bit touch and go in the morning, the afternoon was prefect and turned on some gorgeous late afternoon light for us

While the boys complained a couple of times about having photos taken, they still managed to find bridges to run across, trees to climb and water to play in.  These boys don’t do anything by halves and were all soaked by the end.  I seem to be getting into the habit of finding some water to be splashed around in at the end of a shoot!
